Study at Haapavesi to become a Tourism activities organizer

What does a Tourism activities organizer do?

S/he works with one of the fastest growing industries. S/he organizes different kinds of activities, related to hunting and fishing tourism, wilderness and nature tourism and trail riding tourism. S/he markets, sells and carries out activity services. S/he works as a guide in different kinds of excursions and hiking tours both in winter and summer time. S/he can work in various kinds of positions in tourism activity service enterprises, holiday and travel centers and tourism companies.

What kind of education is it?

At Haapavesi, Nora, a student of the Vocational Qualification in the Tourism Industry has unique possibilities to specialize in producing hunting and fishing services, trail riding services and wilderness and nature tourism services.

Vocational Qualification in the Tourism Industry is totally 120 credits. For a student who has completed matriculation examination or has a previous Vocational Qualification it is only 80-90 credits. Studies include at least 20 decrees of on-the-job-learning, which can also be done abroad. We have co-operation with various companies e.g. in Sweden, Iceland, France, Wales or Italy.

A student will give skills demonstration of all professional studies of Vocational Qualification during the education. A student will get a separate diploma of all the skills demonstrations.

A three-year Vocational Qualification gives general eligibility for higher education in both polytechnics and universities.

The students also have an opportunity of choosing upper secondary school studies leading to the Matriculation Examination. We have co-operation with Haapavesi Upper Secondary School, and it is possible to accomplish both Vocational Qualification and Matriculation Examination at the same time, in just three years.

The education will start in August.

There is also a possibility to complete the Vocational Qualification in the Tourism Industry in a multiform course

It is also possible to study Tourism flexible besides working. In January 2010 we will start a new multiform course. The study year consists of five periods and there are 2-3 one-week contact teaching periods per each period. Duration of the studies is 80-120 credits. It is possible to specialize in producing of hunting and fishing services, trail riding services or wilderness and nature services.

The search is on from 1st October until 30th November. Entrance requirements are: secondary level Vocational Qualification or Upper Secondary School plus work experience, horsemanship, hunting or fishing experience or experience of wilderness hobbies.
