Haapavesi Vocational Institute

is situated in Oulusouth area in Oulu Province. We are a multi-field training centre. We have about 500 students and our staff is round 70. Haapavesi Vocational School has two departments:

• technical department
• service- and nature department

We have education in two different locations: Nora and vocational school . Over 40 years ago vocational school started in Haapavesi and is nowadays supporting the Technical development of the area. Nora has history back to 1892 and is today a modern Developer of the countryside, culture- and naturetourism destination as well as an ecological garden and farm with a beautiful park.

Haapavesi Vocational Institute has also preparatory and rehabilitative education, different kinds of adult and apprenticeship training as well as a school of economics.

The development areas and areas of emphasis are

- ecology and sustainability
- cultivation of ecological foodstuffs and exploiting
- CAD / CAM -technic independent of materials
- development projects in the fields of our education, like tourism, horticulture, wood working etc.
- cooperation with polytechnics and universities

Haapavesi Vocational School has wide international cooperation with many vocational schools, Institutions and private companies e.g. in Austria, Hungary, France, Italy, Lithuania,Sweden. Scotland and Russia. We are taking part and driving many EU- and nationally funded projects, like Comenius (photo of exchange project 2004/2005) and Leonardo Mobility -projects where many of our students have done their workbased learning periods in different countries.
